Historic Synagogues of Eastern Europe

Venue: Classroom

Location: Lexington Avenue at 92nd St

Date: Tue, Apr 25, 2017, 12 pm

In conjunction with the Museum at Eldridge Street's Historic Synagogues of Eastern Europe: Postcards from the Collection of Frantisek Banyai, the museum’s Deputy Director Amy Stein-Milford, and archivist Nancy Johnson, will present a talk on the history of the Eldridge Street Synagogue, built in 1887, and the historic synagogues of Eastern Europe that may have influenced its design and architecture. Showcased images from the exhibition, with beautiful interior and exterior views of synagogues destroyed during the Holocaust, present photography and, in some cases, hand coloring, that offer a poignant view of a time and place that no longer exists.
